• Hz. Enes (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'During the Miraj (Ascension), every community I passed by would say to me: "O Muhammad! Command your nation to perform cupping!"'
  • Hz. Enes (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would perform cupping on the veins on both sides of his neck and the vein between his two shoulders."
  • Abu Kashbah al-Anmari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would perform cupping on his head and between his two shoulders, and he would say: 'Whoever performs cupping for this reason, even if no other treatment is available, will not suffer any harm!'"
  • Ibnu Abbas says: "During the night of the Miraj, whenever I passed by a group of angels, they would say: 'Continue performing cupping! And command your nation to perform cupping!'"
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There are three things that do not break the fast: Performing cupping (bloodletting), vomiting, and sexual dreams."
  • Ibnu Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Healing is found in three things:'
  • - Honey syrup.
  • - Cupping.
  • - Cauterization with fire.
  • However, I forbid my nation from cauterization.'
  • In another narration: "It is said that there is healing in honey and cupping."
  • Ibnu Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The best things you can treat yourselves with are sa’ut (nose drops), cupping (bloodletting), ledud (drops from the mouth), and meshiyy (laxatives).'" (Tirmidhi, Medicine 9, (2048, 2049))
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would perform ghusl for four things: "Janabah (ritual impurity), Friday, cupping, and washing the deceased."
  • In a narration from Sahihayn, it is stated: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would perform cupping and would not wrong anyone in paying for the service."
  • Ibnu Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done while in the state of Ihram (during pilgrimage). (Bukhari, Hunting 11, Medicine 12,15; Muslim, Hajj 88., (1203); Abu Dawood, Rites 36, (1835-1836); Tirmidhi, Hajj 22, (839); Nasa’i, Hajj 92, (5, 193); Ibnu Maja, Rites 87, (3081)). This text is from the Sahihayn."
  • In another narration from Bukhari: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed cupping while fasting," it is said.
  • In another narration from Bukhari: "It is said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done on his head due to pain while in the state of Ihram."
  • In another narration: "Due to the headache called Shaqqah (pain in the front of the head), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done on his head at a place called Lahyu Jamal near the Makkah route."
  • Hz. Enes (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed cupping due to pain in his foot while in the state of Ihram."
  • Abu Dawood, Rites 36, (1837); Nasa’i, Hajj 94, (5,194). In Nasa’i's narration, it is said: "Due to the pain he encountered (the cupping was done on his foot)."
  • Nafi' narrates: "Ibnu Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'A person in Ihram should not perform cupping unless it is absolutely necessary.'"
  • Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There are three things that do not break the fast: performing cupping (bloodletting), vomiting, and sexual dreams.'
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping performed while in the state of Ihram. (This text is from the Sahihayn.) In another narration from Bukhari: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed cupping while fasting," it is said.
  • In another narration from Bukhari: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done on his head due to pain while in the state of Ihram."
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed cupping on his foot due to the pain he suffered. (In Nasa’i’s narration, it is said: "Due to the pain he encountered (cupping was done on his foot).")
  • Ibnu Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "A person in Ihram should not perform cupping unless absolutely necessary."
  • Ummu Salama, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), asked for permission from the Prophet (peace be upon him) to perform cupping. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded Abu Tayyib to perform cupping on Ummu Salama. The narrator said: "Abu Tayyib was probably her foster brother or maybe not yet an adult."
  • Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "Ummu Salama (one of the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)) asked permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to have cupping done. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded Abu Tayyib to perform cupping on Ummu Salama." [323]
  • Abdullah Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done. He paid the person who performed the cupping and also put medicine in his nose."
  • Ibnu Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping done while in the state of Ihram. He also performed cupping while fasting." (Bukhari, Fasting 32, Medicine 11; Muslim, Hajj 87, (1202); Abu Dawood, Fasting 29, (2372, 2373); Tirmidhi, Fasting 61, (775, 776, 777))
  • Hz. Enes (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "We avoided cupping during fasting only because we feared that it would exhaust us."

  • Ibnu Ebi Leyla, a companion, narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prohibited cupping for consecutive days during fasting, but he did not make it forbidden for his companions. He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, you continue fasting until dawn,' and he replied: 'I extend my fast because my Lord provides me with food and drink.'"

  • Rafi' Ibnu Hadic (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Both the one who performs cupping and the one who has cupping performed for them have broken their fast.'" Tirmidhi, Fasting 60, (774); Abu Dawood, Fasting 28, (2367); Ibnu Maja, Fasting 18, (1679, 1680, 1681).
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had cupping performed while in the state of Ihram. Similarly, he also had cupping performed while fasting.
  • Tirmidhi adds: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)...
